It will be a very comfortable walking tour and we pass all the major
highlights o Old Vienna and the city center:
Starting in the ancient Greek Quarter who will get an idea who Vienna looked
like in the Middle Ages. It was a v narrow but busy trade center on the
Danube river. Different religions, different languages ad huge variety of
professions were typical for those times. The impressive and very rich
equpped Jesuit church will show us, how everything changed after the defeat
of the Turcs in the 17th century. Vienna became a residence capital and all
the money was spent in catholic churches and baroque palais. St. Stephens
Cathedral is the heart of the city and the most important real-gothic
cathedral of the German speaking region.
A lunch break will show us the variety of Old Vienna Cuisine. You can deside
for Wiener Schnitzel, Tafelspitz, Kaiserschmarrn (difficult to translate - "Emperors
Nonense"), but fore sure one of the favorite dishes of Emperor Franz Joseph
I. The restaurant we choose is typical Old Vienna style.
Passinf romantic lanes and visiting beautiful courtyards we will hear about
famous persons like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Graham
Green, Billy Wilder, Empress Sisi and Maria Theresia, Sigmund Freud and many
more. All these historical personalities were born in Vienna, spent part of
their life in Vienna or created their masterpieces in Vienna.
Traditional cafés are very important in Vienna. Much more than in any other
city of the world. The Kaffeehaus is an institution itself like, was and
still is a living-room for artists, Viennese as visitors. We well hear more
about this on visiting a typical Kaffeehaus and having Viennese Melange &
Apfelstrudel.
After this we will cross the courts of the Imperial Palais. This was the
heart of the Habsburg administration. Starte700 years ago as a little castle
it is now one of the biggest buildings in Europe. The Emperors Appartments
will show us, who the Habsburg lived, ruled and how they were organized.
Part of this is the Sisimuseum, dedicated to empress Sisi and her life. All
the way long we will pass fascinating fountains as a marvellous ornament on
