Student Residences in Vienna
Due to the large number of students, Vienna offers a multitude of
student accomodation in residences of different categories located all over
the city. Refer to the ÖAD website for a complete listing (incl. location,
prices and various other infos). The ÖAD Housing Office's task is to
administer and allocate places in student halls of residence and small flats
for ÖAD grants, Erasmus students, visiting professors as well as for guest
in Vienna and in the other federal provinces.
Private Accomodation in Vienna
A very popular form of housing among students is the shared flat, so
called Wohngemeinschaft (WG). Probably a good option if you'd like to
submerge into Austrian lifestyle (preferably with no other students of your
country and mothers tongue please!). A few good ressources on the web to
retrieve infos on shared flats - as well as other appartment rental offers -
are as follows:
www.jobwohnen.at
the Austrian student union's official job and housing page
www.immobazar.at
probably the most popular magazine (printed edition as well!)
www.immobilien.net
largest Austrian property portal (many estate agents though)
wohnen.career.at
a large student Wohnbörse (room exchange)
www.wg-gesucht.de
German site (separate Austrian section) focused on shared flats
We would suggest you try to secure accomodation without using the service of
an estate agent, as this will save you the commission (which usually is
three monthly rents!)
Add'l Hint: As a rule of thumb, average rent of unfurnished apartments in
Vienna will be around EUR 10 per square meter per month.
